The wheels fell off the bus!

The wheels fell off the bus!

Where oh where did my energy and motivation go? I was doing SO well! I was cruising along and loving life. Running and loving it! Now, ugh. I want to go to bed!!! I gave myself an extra day off this week to no avail. I got through my run yesterday and it was fine, but I'm lacking the mental stamina and determination to get through it and I'm far from excited about it. I'm HOPING HOPING HOPING this is part of the normal process. I've been training hard and now my body is kind of revolting... just in time for taper. I'm trying really hard to avoid my previous INSTAtaper where I pretty much stop running right before the race....

My BQ dreams are feeling unachievable right now. Again, hoping it's just mental. I know I need to maintain a positive outlook and trust the training I've done. I think I can, I think I can, but first I think I need to nap!

  1. Ahh...the taper funk!! Have you started in on the imaginary injuries yet??;) That's my specialty!!

I say rest up, renew your mind, and do some visualization of crossing the finish line with your BQ time over your head!!

  2. You feel tired because you've worked really hard and now you're ready! Hang in there. You've put the work in, your body is just telling you now is the time to rest before the big race. It will thank you with a big, fat BQ time I'm sure!

Off topic -- LOVE your 2010 goals. :) Let me know which 1/2 IM you pick...that might be on my 2010 list too.

  3. Hey girl, just wanted to send you a few good vibes. It's normal to feel "meh right now. You should be into taper time right? If you are a few days short and feeling lackluster I would start the taper now.

Do everything in your power to get yourself emotionally back on track.

Stop with the Outcome Oriented Thoughts. It's your job to arrive on the Miami start line in a neutral place, knowing that you put in the work, ready to race hard. The results are what they are, you are who you are, just arrive ready to do some more work. Stop thinking about what will happen, nothing good can come of it.

When I am in a funk, I think back to what I am thankful for. Who is injured right now, not training? Who is dealing with the loss of a loved one?

No more Outcome Oriented Thoughts, okay?

  4. It is the nature of the beast! It happens to everyone and is an entirely different aspect of the training - and usually the most difficult part of it. I bet if you went back through your blog and looked at your posts before races you would find the exact same thing. It's just always really scary thinking that this fog might not lift. Listen to your body. Run slow - walk instead - swim more - do yoga - and yes - trust the training. You're going to rock that race LM!

  5. Heya Laura, hang in there. Can't force joy, and just like the marathon itself, the season and training regimen will have their dark moments. Patience. That's my take on it anyway, from a guy who tries not to take any of it too seriously and secretly sometimes is not entirely happy :)
