Peeking my head out of the trenches.

Hello there my long lost friends. Sorry I've been a bit MIA lately. These kids have been challenging me, but we seem to be coming out of it for now. :) I'm not sure what was going on, but it seems to have passed... for the moment. (I'm still gun shy about 'talking' about it when things are going well for fear of jinxing it!) It's amazing the difference a week can make.

A friend used the analogy of getting through the marathon to getting through life. I need to use this. I forget in the moment that this will pass ... just get through the next 'mile'. So we are on a quick down hill right now (a good thing).

Yesterday and today (so far) have gone fairly well. The only big change has been the 'big thaw' and being able to get out of the house. We went for 2 walks/day the last two days and this morning we met at an open gym for little kids. :) It was GREAT. L and J are a bit small for open gym, but they seemed to really enjoy themselves. Lily crawled ALL OVER THE PLACE and Jason picked a spot and pretty much stayed put. Two little kids took an interest in him and entertained him while I chased Lily down every now and then.

At one point a - maybe 5 yo - came over and asked if I had TWO babies. When I said yes his response was, "is it hard to take care of them." I thought that was pretty funny coming from a kid of his age. Maybe he has younger siblings? I watched in awe as my friend Kristi's twins ran around like crazy! They are 15 months old and were just loving the open space and balls and hoola hoops to play with! I'm sure Jason and Lily will be doing that in what seems like a blink of an eye.

So next month is my month to officially start training for the Mad City Half Marathon. I'll be in Texas and w/o my jogger... but hopefully I'll get plenty of opportunities to hit the pavement w/ the willis. God knows we BOTH need the exercise. ;) And when we get back it will be babies, willis and me out there running our little butts off! I'm hoping my friend Marie is still on board to run.... Marie??? You still in? Twin powers unite!! We'll be monopolizing that trail this spring!

  1. An open gym? Wow! What's that? Ian was actually just saying there should be an open place for people to hang out, kids to play, dogs to run that's enclosed for those long dreaded winter months. ugh, why did we pick this place. Huh, it's actually not that bad. Just a pain sometimes, but Madison sounds nice. Maybe I should come for a visit? Do you miss Seattle still?

Glad you're back and things are going better for you. I can only imagine what it has been like for you...

A gym is a good place to hang out for them it sounds like. Lots of padded things for them to fall on!

Good luck with the marathon training. I can't tell you how jealous I am! This too shall pass...right?! ;-)

We could not live without our open gyms here! It's so great for the kids to get out and burn off some steam when the weather is crappy. We are going to open play at the gymnastics place today - the trampoline and the foam pit are always a hit! Having kids is definitely a roller coaster ride, isn't it? Just when you think you have it under control they switch things around on you or something blows up! It is a good lesson for me in patience!

  4. Ummm, I haven't heard of an open gym either. Clubs just let you bring your kids in for free?

  5. Oh.. no, basically it's an open area for your kids to run. This one happened to be on an indoor soccer field at a place called KEVA (www.kevasports.com) I've seen some places that are kids rec areas or gymnastics centers that offer open time for littler kids.
